    Interesting point indeed. Still even the big boys can and have pulled out some incredibly tight and tense matches over the years, so not all is lost

    Btw Selby - MJW up next (two of the big boys)...

      Yep I do agree with a lot of that Daffie, snooker is at its best when it's close( as most sports are) but I like high quality close, not close because no one can make a break so it's safety every thirty break, or missed blacks off the spot.I do give Ronnie a little bit of leeway with his comments and actions as he does have some demons in his head that he seems to have a daily battle with.
      Tom, I can't stand watching Luca Brecel, he seems very lazy technique wise to me, I am always expecting the unexpected miss with him, I don't think he will kick on as all the commentators seem to think.
      Another one that's getting on my nerves while I'm at it lol is Shaun Murphy, get a bloody grip man, and start playing properly why isn't he winning more what's missing from his game, there must be something.

        I find myself in just about complete agreement with all your points above.

        Yes, close battles are almost exclusively worthwhile imo when there is considerable efforts and some good snooker by both players. However in the past many a match with lots of mistakes by both players have proved to be awesome to watch as well, so basically you never know (box of chocolates anyone?)

        Agree with your remarks about ROS' demons...he has come a long way that's for certain. Must not have been easy for him.

        I can't stand Luca Brecel neither (sorry Tom )...far to casual a player for my tastes. But he is still very young, so will have to give him some room there...he will improve I'm sure. Could prove to be a pretty exciting snooker player in a few years time. But I too have my doubts...

        Shaun Murhpy on the other hand, one of my favorite players. But he can get on my nerves at times...like yesterday. He can be so exciting to watch and at other times make silly mistakes, like he's not there (loss of focus and concentration). But person-wise...he is one of the true ambassadors of the sport, and I always commend him for that. A nice bloke with a good heart. Just like Selby imo.

          Don't worry, each to their own and all that! I think I just enjoy the not knowing whether he'll pot or not from Brecel at the moment, like you say he certainly is unpredictable but he's had a good run the past few weeks!

          On Murphy, when he's on he's on. When he isn't he's very beatable. I don't think it's any surprise that he does better in the longer format competitions, where he can find his feet in a comp and get a bit of momentum going.

            When I was seventeen I played for a couple of months when a club opened up in my town, and Murphy reminds me of something a good player said to me at the time " I don't understand how you can look so good yet play so bad" lol ,Murphys the same, looks like he should be clearing the table all the time.

              Does Williams remind anyone else of Davis/Hendry in their latter years. Still capable of playing well, but when you get the easy chances to clear up, they just werent converting. Gutted he lost as he was playing well but the long red and the one to middle pocket, shouldnt be missing those.

              Selby did play well though on the other hand, but he was getting easy chances to get in.

                Yep....been thinking this myself this season. Which is a shame. Davis was my first snooker hero, and I'm very much a fan of MJW. I'm afraid it is starting to look like Davis in his forties though.

                  Yes, it's a shame. I imagine it's a mix of concentration and motivation, it must be hard being at the top of a sport for so many years. People seem to be nicking frames off him in recent times, all down to him not scoring enough 70+ breaks to win in one visit!

                      Three players have made a similar point in their post match interviews; ROS, MW, and now Mark Allen - namely that they've stopped overthinking their game, speeded up and decided to just go for their shots. Is this significant, I wonder, and a sign of the way the game is being approached these days?

                        It's in case Selby is playing. The ref can change the TV scoreboard to Corrie to stop the audience getting bored.

                            A good win for Selby. Enjoyable match as well.

                            Now catching up with the Robertson - Fu match, before continuing with tonight's matches...

                            Tomorrow...Selby vs ROS. Very much looking forward to this Battle of the Titans

                              Anyway, will finally get to see Ding play tonight. Just glad he's still in it.
