OMG for the little I saw Selby is not a propaganda for snooker - so young and already very boring

Going back to the Premier League discussion. Cueman has a valid point. This isn't entertainment - people that don't play the game will find this type of match extremely dull. Selby will lose fans if he carries on like he is.
I thought his fans like him anyway, although I never could understand why.. Still, if he thinks this is the way to win tournaments, than no-one can complain about it really, it's his decision.

To be fair though Selby did get a fair bit of criticism for using these tactics in the W/C final against JH. That obviously was not a one off. If its going to become a permanent trait of his that is not good news..."You can shove your snooker up your jacksie 'cos I aint playing no more!" Alex Higgins.

as far as i've seen Selby adopts different tactics for each opponent ..if i remember well...at the Masters' final he had open games...and lots of consistent breaks. With Ronnie it's harder,a miss can mean the end of the frame and since he has an weakness against slow games i would say that Selby made the right choice.
About fans...i think he'll always have many fans.He knows also how to "catch" the crowd.

I think this 'Jester from Leicester' business is a bit much. Turning to the crowd and pulling a face every now and then doesn't make you a character, or man of the people.
Some people have said on these forums (probably more so on 606) have said that Selby could be the new "People's champion", but I don't think this will ever be the case. Past players to be attributed such a title - Jimmy White and Alex Higgins the most obvious examples - played with speed, flair and passion. There was an unpredictability and excitement when they played, but Selby is certainly not in this mould.
Selby plays to win any way he can, which is logically hard to fault considering he is a professional, but not likely to be big box-office.
I personally don't enjoy watching him, and I appreciate snooker in all it's variety, but this match has not been good viewing.
O'Sullivan will have to find some way of dealing with Selby though, as they're likely to meet a fair bit in coming tournaments.

Why doesn't he just say "F this! and blow it open? The last frame was hopefully the start of Ronnie playing his game regardless of what Selby tries to do.

All this is perfectly true.
However, it is a clear cut case of 'easier said than done'.
Usually the winner of any match will have dictated the pace of it. If only Ronnie can get flowing he could spped things up to his pace and blow Selby away, but Selby is preventing this one way or another..."You can shove your snooker up your jacksie 'cos I aint playing no more!" Alex Higgins.

I can't say Selby's is boring. If he's boring than Stephen Hendry is boring too.
He can play a good break and diffucult shots. But he can fing amazing safetys and escapes. He's an amazing young player!2007 TSF Pot Black prediction contest winner
