  • Snooker Table lighting

I have finally convinced the committee at my club to change the old style so-called 'coffin lights' to something more up-to-date and efficient. The current set-up creates quite a shadow when playing length of the table shots. A number of us can only tell the location of the object ball by the reflection of the lights on it.

I know that this has been discussed on the forum in the past but there doesn't seem to be anyhing recent and, bearing in mind that there have been considerable enhancements in lighting, particularly by way of LED systems I am wondering if anyone has purchased anything recently and what their thoughts are.

I have spotted a couple of items and I have provided a couple of links for you to have a look at. We are particularly looking for something that is very effective as well as being attractive to look at.

    Welcome to Peradon

Professional Tournament Snooker Pool Billiard Table Lighting LED And Fluorescent Lighting/Light Fitting Energy Efficient Snooker Lights (5FT LED Daylight) : Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

Any input will be much appreciated, thank you

As soon as you go down the "snooker lighting" route the cost is much higher. You don't need to use snooker specific lighting these days as there are more generic solutions available which are more cost effective and do the exact same job.

I'll let the lads who built their snooker rooms give recommendations on those though. 😊

BTW - well done on convincing the committee as that is an up hill struggle I know! πŸ‘πŸ‘

The peradon lighting is nothing more than office lighting systems but they charge three times the price ,two double sets of anti flicker strip lights five feet each will do the job ,that’s what I have and it’s bright as hell with no shadows .Had the same bulbs in for around six years .

I recently swapped my flat panel LED lights which were far too bright, this is what I bought… and I’m very pleased with them, no difference between these and the modern lights used in clubs! If anything it’s more about choosing the right bulb!

I do have extra spot lights around the perimeter, sometimes I’ll put them on if I want it a bit brighter, depends how I’m feeling

Better than the other ones Steve πŸ‘.

The others were too low for panel type lights . If I shut my eyes I still see those lights πŸ™‚

Are they for when you have your "Shaun Murphy's" sequinned suit on Steve?? 😝

I can answer that , it’s his break board for visitors and for keeping track of his own breaks .
It looks like it’s got some writing on it now though .

Yeah what Starsky said, only I also make notes on what I think I’m doing right on good days so I can look back at it whenever I’m struggling. I’ve also been giving a little coaching to others here and there, so it helps with that!

It’s just a white board and I have an array of coloured marker pens

Yeah I find I don’t get as much eye strain as I use to, some, but not as much!

Considering the amount of hours you do in there that’s got to be a good thing Steve especially in the long term.

a few years ago my club changed from old coffins to duet type defuser high frequency tube lighting and the difference is amazing. It did take a little while to get used to the different lights but now don't notice.

As well as better lighting at the table, it is wonderful to be able to see across the room without having to duck under the coffins!
The whole room has a better feel to it entirely

                              Up the TSF! :snooker:
