        A good Parris cue is among the best but I for one am not a big fan of Parris because he sent me a one piece Traditional with big flat spots in the taper on four of the chevrons near the tip, and it was bent as well. It looked terrible when sighting down the tip, and I'm certain that it couldn't have happened in transit.

        I don't like bashing people, but I don't like the idea of other people sharing my disappointment either. If you want a good parris cue make sure you see it first before you buy it, in person. Go to his shop or buy one from a stockist, or get one second hand. Might be harder to get your specs but it's a much safer option I think.

        Or try another maker, there are quite a few good ones who are more consistent.
        Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!

              I was in front of the same decision couple of month ago. Either to get a JP Ultimate or a H&O Blackplate.

              For me it was hard to get some information or a feedback from JP. My impression was that they were not really interested in selling a cue or discuss my specifications and wishes.

              On the other side i contacted Robert Osborne and he was really taking care for me, was responding, made suggestions and shared his thoughts with me.
              So i ordered my Blackplate in November.
              Since then i had a couple of questions, a few changes and some requests.
              Robert was always responding quickly and i feel to be really welcomed.

              So for me it was a good decision so far.
              The only point is that I have not yet received the cue so cannot tell you about the result...
              But just one or two weeks to wait...
              I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

                  Chatlag,
                  I telephoned Robert Osborne a few days ago regarding a green or a black plate cue. He answered all of my questions nicely and brought up some points that I had not considered. I'm new to the forum but have been scouring it for weeks now reading every thread I can on cue makers, etc. I recognize your name and have read many of your replies and think that you have a good handle on things. I think that I am going to order a black plate, not because I need to have the best cue that he makes, but it would be nice and I think it would hold its value better than the green. Play well with your new H&O.
                  The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

                    its a shame that the only known british cuemaker here is john parris.
                    nobody has even heard of trevor white or woolridge and others.
                    RIP NOEL, A TRUE TSF LEGEND.

                      Hi Wayne,
                      thanks a lot for your positive feedback.
                      I think you are right that the black plate will hold its value more than the others. And I am sure that you will not regret your decision to go for H&O.

                      My new one is very well made and is looking fantastic.
                      But it is unfortunately not the greatest playing cue for me.
                      I cannot tell you why but it feels a bit dead in my hands.
                      I am trying to find out where this comes from but so far I have no idea...
                      It is really a pity.

                          Sorry to hear your cue is not playing well. I'd get in contact with them though as its not good that you spend that kind of money on a cue only to find it doesn't play to your expectations.
                          It does highlight what I've said all along that having a cue made to spec is no guarantee of producing the right playing characteristics that you are looking for. Also shows that even with good dialogue and explaining what you want to the maker does not mean he can come up with the goods every time.
                          I've only seen one H&O cue and TBH I thought it was well made but didn't play as well as expected, certainly hugely over priced for what they are IMO.

                            @888

                            I've ordered a blackplate last november and received it in Feb....

                            @cueman

                            The cue is already under discussion with H&O. I am looking forward how they handle that. A complaint will show true customer focus...

                            I was aware that custom made is not a guarantee and I found out that some cues far away from my preferred specs plays a lot better for me.
                            And I also agree that H&O and JP are really, really high priced. They use the same material as some others and they do not have a magic potion to make outstanding cues compared to others...
                            I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

                              And I found out that it is really difficult to explain what is not OK with a cue. I can tell it is feeling somewhat dead.
                              But does this help a cue maker to fix the problem? But I have not yet found out how I can tell it more precise. So I am still collecting some experience and I compare with other cues that play better.
