I'm sure I'm not the only one who has followed this thread with a sense of bemusement on the scientific analysis of a cheap cue and have awaited the results with baited breath. However maybe it's time to admit defeat and send the cue to the Cerne lab in Geneva where they can stick it into the Hadron Collider and really find out what the things made off.
You never really learn to swear until you miss an easy shot halfway through a break.:snooker:
If anybody is interested in this affair yet, my freind just won a biddig about a similar "handmade cue from Mark Amazons"
This would be it: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...L:CORT:CA:1123
I can take some ORDINARY macro pictures from it if you want...

Would very much appreciate some images and your opinion when you get it
So I got the top secret microfilm with the pictures
My opinion is that it is not as bad as I tought before, but.... for me it looks horrible, the varnish feels stange for me. The wood? I don't know weather it is ebony or not. I tried to make good pictures from it but I'm not a pro photographer. Overall I think for this price it was a good deal (at least for the case and the extensoins)
If somebody is interested in a closer picture from any part of the cue, I can make more...
Here you are:
This is like cancer--just when you think you are rid of it, it comes back trying to kill you.
The guy is not even selling Kevin Sharland any more! I notice recently he has changed the name to "Klein."
May be you can start a new thread if you want to show picture of these MYX cues? I dont think anyone is seriously interested in the pictures. I mean we all know we should not expect much from these cheap cues.

now that you have brought it up, I went to check the ebay account and noticed the account name doesn't even exist anymore... lol.. must have deleted name/account and moved on to a new English name... crooked chinese seller... lol...
I wasn't expecting much when i bought one, thinking I can sell it off to some beginner if I don't like it, except the surprise came when the cue aren't even handspliced... :P I mean no one is thick enough to sell a hand painted cue to any body could they? :P

I saw some "Klein" cues that were exactly like the Kevin Sharland (pictures were taken witht he same abckground and same angles), I think he has changed the name.
What you had could still be hand spliced but was just not ebony. It was probably some hardwood stained black and the guy did a bad job staining them. If you apply some thinner the stain should come off, then you can see wht type of wood is underneath. Might even look better that way, you never know.
The edge of the ebony/shaft looks uneven. Its probably made out of one piece of wood.
I have a friend (good player) who plays with a cue with painted ebony. The whole cue has no splice under the paint job. But he loves playing with it.
there's a big difference between hand splicing stained wood VS painted & no splicing, and no doubt this particular cue is the painted varierty, the wood may very well play ok, but I wouldn't be able to tell until I get around to sand the ferrule flat as right now the ferrule is crooked from the factory because "the craftsman himself" doesn't know how to properly fit a ferrule.. I'll also need to completely refinish the cue, as there's a few dings here and there, I may even fully remove the black paint, but by the time I finish with it, it's not really a Kevin Sharland cue anymore is it?
re: Marlboro, I remember seeing a few cues made from Peradon or Powerglide which actually didn't have the splicing, some pool cue doesn't have splicing either, so of coz the splicing doesn't help you pot a ball, it's just part of the decoration, but somehow black paint as a decoration doesn't appeal to me much..
