With so many reds on the table it wasn't that difficult to escape. Play with a good amount of pace and miss the blue.

after thinking about it a bit more i think youre right, it would have been difficult to play it with a lot of pace being so close to the cushion cueing over the green and using the rest but he certianly could have hit it harder than he did, so far call

And also, how could Ian Verhaas call a miss on that attempt from Day?! He showed a very poor sense for snooker in that ocasion. This was a textbook example where a foul without a miss should be called. Ian is loosing his credit in my eyes. He made a crucial mistake in the deciding frame in the UK Championship final as wll, when he didn't see that Murphy touched the green with his cue. If he saw that, maybe Fu would have been reigning UK champion.

Going back to the UK final, it was actually Fu who touched the green, but it would not have made any difference apart from the 4 points.

Only to echo what Odrl said above, you HAVE to call a Miss if a player does not make his best attempt to hit the ball on. Not best attempt to leave it safe.

Good Mauricio what do you think now youve seen it? Bit harsh IMO.

Sorry for delay response, but like Odrl has posted, I think there are other reds to play, but if he has played a bit more strong, fatally cue ball should hit a red. The only problem is he probably should leave cue ball in position to Allen clean up the table, so I agree with referee decision.

I am very surprised to read that so many people think it was the wrong decision. It was an easy call. Plenty of reds, reasonably placed around the table. Tough position behind the green, but a huge target to hit. Ryan Day deliberately played for a specific red, dead weight - that's a miss right there. Any other call would have been preposterous.
