Only to echo what Odrl said above, you HAVE to call a Miss if a player does not make his best attempt to hit the ball on. Not best attempt to leave it safe.

With so many reds on the table it wasn't that difficult to escape. Play with a good amount of pace and miss the blue.
Ryan didn't try his best to escape from the snooker although he certainly tried his best to escape from the snooker and land safe.
