Probably a little bit optimistic from me. Maguire and Robertson are running out of time in their peaks, especially Robertson, as long ball potting leaves the player the first, but Selby will be a threat and Allen is rising, too.

I hope he at least wins it for once, though. Winning it for once and being unable to do it is very different in my opinion.

Hm, I would disagree with you on this one.

O'Sullivan is very strong when he gets into a scoring rhythm and the frames only last a bit over 10 minutes or so. Williams is a perfect opponent for him, in terms of style at least, because he plays very quickly and openly as well. He also takes a few risks, so he leaves chances when they don't go in. Although to be fair, Williams only left an easy opening once today.

The way to stop O'Sullivan once he gets going is to break his rhythm, which is something Selby is great at. He is a brilliant safety player, so is well capable of limiting his opponents' scoring chances. He also doesn't mind when the balls go awkward, or when the high colours go safe, which is something that O'Sullivan can get frustrated about. And Selby also has no problem slowing the pace down and going defensive, if he feels the game could slip away from him. Those two finals that Selby won from three frames behind against O'Sullivan are great examples. There was a big contrast between the part of the match when O'Sullivan got the lead, and the part where he lost it. He went from one-visit mode to struggling to put anything substantial together.

So I definitely think Williams made a mistake in trying to beat O'Sullivan at his own game. It can be done of course, but O'Sullivan is the best in the world in that type of snooker, no doubt about that. But Selby will try everything he can to play the type of game that O'Sullivan doesn't like, and also isn't very comfortable with.

Should be a great match in any case.

In 2008, it could have been said again, after beating Mark J with a 147, but he played even better in the upcoming matches, especially against Hendry and Carter..

The only way to win this one for Selby is hoping for a sloppy start from Ronnie and build a first session lead. Otherwise, it can be too late for him.

Of what i have seen of Robertson so far i would say he has a good chance, but i would put O'Sullivan, Allen and Selby just slightly ahead of him..

I agree that limiting down the scoring opportunities may be a good strategy. But Mark did not do too much wrong today. Ronnie's long ball potting was awesome, which won him the crucial final frames. And although Mark lost, in my opinion, he played a more respectful game

I can't agree more about the last paragraph. Selby will try to do some ultra-defensive tricks again- from what I remember about those finals, the balls were all over the place in the critical frames Ronnie lost-, the reason why I dislike him as a player.

              Great match coming

                • By the way, it should have been 12-8 for Ding, but instead it's 10-10

Sorry Ding, I can't see it happening this year. O'Sullivan-Allen match will decide the winner on paper..

From what Robbo has played so far, he must think he had luck on his side. He made a great comeback, but Gould still threw away a couple of chances to finish the match. Now that he has made it to the quarters, without playing exceptionally well, he must raise his game from now on..

Robertson-Davis will be interesting to watch
