I'm not sure I understand the scoring... ... anyway,

    I bid 165 for Round 296 and 129 for Round 297...

(In Round 297 I got two equal values of a Line, black-brown-green and green-pink-blue both add up to 14, I assumed one of them is the highest and the other one is the second highest... )

It seems Round 295 has left for me...

I think colouring a 1470 x 1470 "chessboard" with six colours shouldn't be a big problem for little Oliver.

The easiest way would be using some of the 10x10 "chessboard" pics posted above, instead of one square he only has to colour 147x147 squares (for example the yellow patch must be 147x294 squares).

I'm sure there are LOADS of different ways to do it, and I'm also pretty sure that he could colour every "chessboard" using six colours, if the number of rows is even and bigger than six... Sadly I am not clever enough to give a proper explanation... ... somebody please help!

think I never got close to 174 in R.296 though

and a spoons manual..., would need to ask Ronnie for that, or next best expert Monique

Maybe if we could have an extended manual for the spoons, I may have a go to climb up that hall of frame!

So, that answer can come up on the thread as well now, as solved by Abextra, d_g and Mon.
At the same time we can probably close that crossword (from a while ago) as well.

I will leave those spoons open a bit longer, just in case

Thank you abextra. Some more nice pictures there!

Hopefully someone will post so we can close round 295 soon.

Another couple of quick rounds below. Please post your bids on the thread for the highest score you can get (and state which round you are answering!).

    ---------------------------------------------

    Round 296 - Snooker Balls I

Take 7 snooker balls - one red and the six colours - and lay them on a snooker table wherever you wish. For every appearance of three of more touching balls in a straight line, it is called a Line.

The value of a Line is the total points of the balls it contains, multiplied by the value of the smallest scoring ball in the Line. For example, if yellow, brown, blue and pink are in line, that is worth (2+4+5+6) x 2 = 17x2 = 34.

Add up the scores from all your Lines, and post here your highest bid.

    ---------------------------------------------

Round 297 - Snooker Balls II

As above, but this time the value of a Line is just the total points of the balls it contains.

However, if you have more than one Line, then your 2nd highest scoring Line scores double points, your 3rd highest scores treble points, your 4th highest quadruple points etc.

    Post here your highest bid.

Note - you are not allowed to have more than one Line in line! For example, if you have 4 touching balls in a straight line, that counts as a Line of four balls - you cannot divide it into two Lines of three.

And snookersfun has (a while ago) correctly pre-empted Gordon's answer for round 295. Well done! Will that be the last correct answer to be sent in 2007?
