I did stay near the coast, but never went to the beach. I'll see if I can find the exact location.
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

Portugal is another good idea for the end of October. I did a circular trip a couple of years ago, starting at Lisboa. From there to the north (Coimbra, Porto, and others and then southbound again). Great culture, great history, nice people

My point is: do something different! Whats the meaning of repeating the things millions of other tourists have done before? (...)
To answer your Q : maybe because we're curious experiencing things and places for ourselves. After all no gain for me if thousands of others have been to Greece as long as i haven't been there myself. Plus , you can't say it's not a beautiful country.( Oh , and i don't think Greece is the most expensive destination either ).
For a change , next time you can visit Romania and shake hands with Dracula , he'd be glad to meet ya!
Besides choosing a place for a vacation depends a lot of what your purposes are for that vacation : if you intend visiting nice places then Greece would be a nice destination and not only Greece , if the purpose is to spend some quiet time far from the noisy world then your idea is just great, if you're just looking forward spending nice moments with your dear ones far from home , i think any place would be perfect.

              @ Nina
Hi Nina, it is nice to read about how much you love your country and how vehemently you defend tourists to southern countries. You should apply for a job in one of these tourist boards. .
But I think, Hege didn't want to offend anybody. He just said what he thinks of the behaviour of s o m e tourists.
As far as I am concerned I love the so called cultural journeys. You can have them in southern countries and in the silence of a lighthouse, depending on your definition what "culture" is. To me a scenic drive belongs to it.

Croatia and Slovenia are nice, too. Dunno about the weather in November, but the landscape is very interesting on the islands (e.g. Krk), looks like the moon!
Plus in Croatia they don't seem to have vowels.
There's a huge cave in Slovenia called Å kocjanske Jame, just amazing, you get acrophobia in there.

wonder what attraction will I find there. I bet the weather would be even worse than in Latvia!

oh I believe. I just think not the best destination for end October/November. And I can't drive, so I am not sure I can visit all those places even I go there

                          Nice people are everywhere

Well your choices are fairly limited if you can't drive.
