I felt the same way until I had some coaching, and started to record my cue action on video. I can now see where/what I am doing wrong and can target that specific thing - a cueing fault - when I practice, and ignore it when I play for fun. I am gradually improving, some days are better than others tho and it can be really frustrating.

If you haven't yet, start recording your cue action on a regular basis, even a phone camera will do, get it off onto a pc and get some free software (avidemux, kinovea) to manipulate and analyze it and you'll be amazed what's going on.

There is nothing better for practicing/smoothing out a cue action than playing blues short (middle) or long (end) with top and trying to pot the white. It will show any cueing or aiming fault immediately.

Nicks forum name is archalf1471 cos he has had 1471 cues in the last few years..........I thought that I was bad until I met him.

and, by the way, myself and Trevor White played Nick and Luke and we kicked their butts good and proper!!

If I recall correctly Mike, we were all pretty poop that day, but they were slightly worse than we were...ha.

Hope you really enjoy the cue Mike, it has to feel a bit special knowing a snooker legend owned and used it.

Seems ur not only regarded as great cue maker, a great player as well.

Maybe all the british cue makers should meet for a exhibition/competition day to see who best lol. Throw ADR in for good measure as reputable seller from the forum.

Out of curiousity, Has ronnie ever contacted you about a cue?

              What about hendry?

As a matter of interest when will "search for THE cue the sequel" be out on DVD for us all to enjoy Mike? Could be as profitable a series as Halloween or American Pie?
Its not how well you play its how good you look playing that counts!

I remember Drifield, when he was one of the top billiard players in the country, along with the likes of Frank Edwards, Beetham, Reg and Jack Wright and a few others. Used to go to Soho Square to see them play in the bad old days .. lol.

                            nrage:

What's the difference between avidemux and kinovea? Will avidemux allow me to put up lines and circles that will stay there? With kinovea they disappear after a couple of frames (and I'm too cheap to buy the version with all the options)

                            Thanks,

Wow!! Acrowot, a fellow Oldgit!! Back around the early 1970s there was great contention between Rex Williams and Leslie Driffield as to which one was the World Professional Billiard Champion. At that time Leslie Driffield used to advertise in the 'Snooker Scene' coaching weekends at his house near Pontefract and I went and stayed with him one weekend. There was myself and a reporter from the Sunday 'People' newspaper as they were doing an article about Leslie. I had a wonderful weekend being coached at Billiards by Leslie and I remember on the Sunday morning that Leslie was on a 400+ billiard break and his wife shouted us through for Sunday lunch and Leslie just stopped playing and picked up the balls and put them in the box!! Amazing. He certainly helped me with my billiards and also coached me in technique although to look at me today you wouldn't think so!! One thing that I do remember from that weekend was that even then (40 years ago!!) there were 'kicks' and Leslie was convinced that kicks were caused by static electricity, I remember him putting small pieces of paper on his table and rubbing the ball with a cloth and then holding it over the paper and watched as the paper jumped from the table and stuck to the cue ball!

Hello oldgit, I was talking about before Rex Williams was as good as that. I did play Williams after that time at snooker and lost on the blue, when he came here for an exhibition, but that was probably in the 70's. It was earlier when we used to go to Soho Square. Frank Edwards, Henry Beetham ( think it was Henry) and Driffield were the top men then ( in the 50's and 60's).
